Could people check this web page and let me know if when they get to the
page if the menu and page load prior to the sound file strarting to play?
Thank you much. I have heard a couple different opionions on this and it is
getting frustrating.

If it is not does anyone know what I can do to achieve this?

Site was down earlier when I tried to check it. It's back up now.
On VDSL connection it loads in about 15-20 seconds...and immediately begins playing (wish it didn't - but at least you have a control to stop it).

The background loads slightly before the page loads fully, but thats kinda normal.

True streaming? I think you need a streaming host for that.

I dont know anymore. I thought I had this settled. Bob Lehman has really got
me worried now.

Does this work in your opinion? What should I do differently?

Personally, I hate any music that starts playing automatically. Why don't you make it an option...put it on a different page so people can hear your stuff but make it so they have to actually decide to play a clip if they want.

On a cable connection with a 3MB download, the background is almost instant and the page content
right behind it, all load moments before the music is fully buffered and starting to play.

Since your site deals with the band and it's music, I don't see a real issue with the music playing,
however I would not want to hear the same song every time I visit the site, so it might be best to
provide users with a option to play or not and with a choice.

can only agree, I am on dialup and I was gone before the
download was complete by closing the window. Soon as I saw
the media player I was tempted to go but as the music
downloaded , tried to play, repeated as a bit more came in I
left.

Put info about yourself on the homepage, provide slideshows,
music etc as an option, if it is not a streaming option I
would suggest as a downloadable link, maybe a very small
sample first.

As I have said I left basically before I even knew what you
were on about - dialup is still around, as are download
quotas.

Good luck

Did the rest of the page load even though the sound file had not?

So other than alternating the sound file you would say to leave it be?

I have been told by others on dialup that the rest of the page loaded within
15-20 seconds. Not sure why Geoffw and Rob are enountering someting
different.

Thomas may be faster than my connection. I'm on VDSL not dialup (abt 700k-1meg up/down depending on if the kids are online too) .. not as fast as cable.

Yes.

just had another look, with everything except the music
cached the query and display was about 10 seconds, there was
enough music cached that it played for 29 seconds before it
started to break up and tried to play as fast as my download
allowed (this is from the timer in WM player
