In the future you should post this to the Word newsgroup. This newsgroup is
for Microsoft Access a database product. The website can be a little
confusing but if scroll down you should see Word in the option or

Word2003 came out, isn't that a bit much to expect?

Microsoft programs do not translate backwards. That is if you have 2000 on
your computer you cannot open anything from 2002 forward. But is you have
2003 on your computer you can open anything that is earlier. Sorry.

Sometimes you can save a document in a different year format. I do not know
if this can be done without opening the doc.
