Is it possible to have just ONE default view in Windows Explorer?

I REALLY hate the fact that Vista changes the view based on the type of
files in a folder. Then just when you have spent days setting up all your
view the way you want, Vista wacks out and start changing views at random.
Then it stops allowing you to select multiple files and you have to delete a
buch of registry keys just to get back to zero again. Hello!

Is there a way to turn off the artificial non-intelegence in vista windows
explorer. Don't I know better than Vista how I want to view folders?

GIVE ME BACK XP Windoes EXPLORER!!!!!!

I have a CLEAN instal of Windows Vista Premium. I purchase all new hardware
to support this mess. Intel Core 2 Duo E6700, ATI X1950, 2 gigs PC 6400 Mem,
Raptor Drive..... My weak link is VISTA.

You can try. I say try because if or not the changes will stick depend
and as far as I know you need to do it one hard drive at a time.

1. Go to Windows Explorer. I just tried going to my "F" drive which
has a mix of just about everything, videos, music files, some
still images, spreadsheets, text files, etc.. Now right click then
select properties.

2. Click the customize tab, then pick one of the options. I picked
all items.

3. Don't forget to check apply to all sub folders.

4. Click on Apply, then OK.

Testing everything in all 36 sub folders everything now is in a
details list format and I knew before I made the change some folders
were set to show thumbnails, others details of my MP3 music
collection. It worked. Everything now was simply a list, no longer
details for my MP3 collection, no more thumbnails.

Tip: If there are one or two folders you want different like I wanted
to restore my MP3 music folder to show details, I changed this one sub
folder back to Music details and that one sub folder again showed the
details while the rest remained a list.

This seems to work on my D and E Drive. On my C Drive (the OS Drive) there
is no "Customize" tab from properties.

Thanks!

That seems to be the norm. Which sucks for those with only 1 hard drive and
would like the same view for all the folder types

I've written a script that helps MOST people with the multi-select problem
(still working with one guy via e-mail). It will remove single-select from
saved folder views & saved defaults. Right-click the link below & select
'Save Target As..."

http://mysite.verizon.net/res18hr7/FixSingleSelect.zip

Regarding folder views:

In Vista, 'Apply to Folders' now works on a per-template basis: All Items,
Documents, Pictures, Music Icons, Music Details, Videos & Contacts can each
have
different default settings. So you'll need to use 'Apply to Folders' once
for each folder type. Namespace folders such as Desktop, Computer, Control
Panel, etc are each their own type as well -- so they won't pick up the
default setting you have set. But they should remember their view once you
have changed it to your liking.

To disable auto-sensing of content, create the following registry entry:

-----------------------------
Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Classes\Local
Settings\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Shell\Bags\AllFolders\Shell]
"FolderType"="NotSpecified"

I have a 5 year old Packard Bell. Stuck 128MB of graphics, and 1gig of DDR
ram in it, clean install home Premium; works like a dream!
