another question is : Is it a risk to allow acrobat reader or Word access to internet ?
 
No. All they do is occasionally phone home to check for
various updates.

Having IE (or any software) act as a server means that it's OK for an
application to try to talk to it, not for it to connect to the Internet. IE
generally should not act as a server.
