Is Bitdefender time limited?

Is Bitdefender 8 time limited.

I installed it as an on-demand scanner and haven't used it for a
while. Today it says it has expired.

I thought I read here that it was genuine freeware.

That is the same Bitdefender as I have got.
But mine seems time limited.

Can that be right?
