Is autorun AND autoplay really off (CD/DVD drive)?

I've found the reg key to disable the autorun
(HKLM/system/currentcontrolset/services/cdrom) and I know about right
clicking on the cd drive going to properties and turning off all the
autoplay options, but it seems like my drive is still doing more then just
initializing when I put a CD/DVD in.
If it's a picture CD, for example, it opens the CD folder so you can view
the pictures. I want to set it to do absolutely nothing (besides initialize,
of course).

Any ideas?

1) the reg entry you describe is NOT the autoPLAY entry; it is the "auto
insert notification" entry. You should NOT change this to 0, leave it set
to 1. With it set to 0 you run the risk that the system will not notice
when you change disks, which can lead to annoying behaviour.

2) if your goal is to stop AutoPlay upon disk insertion, then here's how
to do it: get TweakUI, and in the My Computer | Autoplay | Drives section
UNCHECK the cdrom and dvd drives. In the Types section, UNCHECK the two
entries, cdrom and removable. This will pretty much stop AutoPlay. If
you still find that it occasionally "bothers you", then you can disable
the Shell Hardware Detection service too.

Note that even if you do all of the above, when the drive holds a cdrom
that has an autorun.ini file at its root, the right-click menu default for
the drive will still be AUTORUN, so if you should double-click it (out of
habit) then it will autorun, rather than simply OPEN. I have found no way
to "correct" that.

Funny, even after I changed this setting it was still autoplaying CD/DVD's
and recognizing them in My Computer the instant they spin up. I can't
believe I forgot about TweakUI though. It worked like a charm. Thanks

I have a prob with autorun in that when I start my Ulead Movie Maker prog
autorun starts up and cannot be stopped without rebooting. Can anyone tell me
how to stop this useless bit of programming and what the hell is Tweak ui if
that is a tool to stop it
