Is automatic sequential numbering available in powerpoint?

I have an icon (a small stop sign) that has a number in it. There are many
updates to this list, and the icons need to be renumbered often. How can I
do this?

Thanks anyway, Glen. I have seen rapid number updating in Visio (just a
click changed the number) and we used an add-in to do it. It doesn't appear
that PPT has the same function. The difficulty is that I have 90 of these
icons to change. If I were in Excel, I could write a formula to change them
automatically, but I'm trying to make these changes quickly in PPT.
