IRQs

I noticed today that my graphics card (FX 5900XT) and my sound card (Audigy
2) both share IRQ 16. I understand that Windows XP Pro uses shared IRQs but
I was always under the impression that the graphics card should occupy it's
own IRQ. Will this cause me any problems?

Cheers.

Has it caused any problems thus far?

Not in the case of you describe. The Audigy is running on the normal PCI
bus. The graphics card has it's own dedicated bus (AGP) Accelerated
Graphics Port. Your motherboard likely has an APIC (Advanced Peripheral
Interface Controller) that extends the traditional IRQ mapping from 15 up
to 23. Most likely you've got your Audigy plugged into a "Shared IRQ" PCI
slot. Motherboards generally only have 2 slots with independent IRQs in use.
(Slots #2 and #5 usually have this).

Hey Michael,

No problems so far but I've only just re-installed XP. It's probably always
been like that since XP came out but it was something I just noticed today.

Cheers.
