IRQL Not Less or Equal Stop Error

B

BadHead

I occasionally get a Blue Screen of Death with the following heading:

IRQL_Not_Less_or_Equal .

I don't know whether it is just coincidence, but this error seems to occur
when I am connected to the internet. I use a SpeedTouch 330 USB Broadband
modem. I have a few IRQ Conflicts: IRQ 20 is shared between my Realtek AC'97
Audio and my NVIDIA nForce4 ADMA Controller and IRQ 21 shares NVIDIA nForce4
ADMA Controller and NVIDIA Network Bus Enumerator.

Could any of these conflicts cause the problems?

Also, I have read in certain sites that this problem seems to be experienced
by people using Nvidia Hardware and/or Symantec software. I have an NVIDIA
PCI/E Graphics card and Symantec Ghost 9.

Any ideas?

Thanks

That Stop Error is usually caused by bad drivers, sometimes by bad
hardware. With modern operating systems, you don't need to worry about
shared IRQ's the way we had to in The Old Days. I would start by
updating your drivers, starting with the network adapter. As in any
troubleshooting, only make one change at a time (and take notes if
doing some complicated t-shooting) and test after each change. Get
drivers from the device mftr.'s website OR if you have any OEM machine
(HP, Dell, Sony, etc.) from the OEM's website for your specific model.
