This is turning out to be the upgrade from hell. I get this error about
half way through the detecting devices phase of install.

Anyway I'm installing an Intel DP35DP motherboard as an upgrade on an
older system(everything is new but the drives.) After searches of both
MS and Intel knowledge bases turned up nothing useful, I called Intel
support.

According to the Intel tech, my copy of XP is too old. The board has
PCI express slots and only XP-SP2 or later will work on it. He
mentioned that I could slipstream SP2 during install but I was unable to
find info on this either. I tried putting in an old PCI video card as

Any suggestions on how to work around this without buying a new copy of
XP? I tried putting in an old PCI video card and it seems to have gotten
slightly further into install before the same error popped up.

To slipstream in SP2 look into the program nlite. Copy the WinXP CD
files to your hard drive, and download the standalone SP2 installer
from microsoft. Run nlite and point it to the copied XP files. It will
have an option for service packs and simply point it to the SP2 file
and at the end it will generate an ISO that you can boot from. It will
also allow you to slipstream in SATA drivers if required.

Update. I found MS KB900871 article on how to do this and it worked.
One more bit of experience I wasn't in the mood to gain right now.
Anyway next time I won't be pounding my head against the wall over this one.
