IRPSTACKSIZE TOO SMALL ERROR 2011

WXP Pro SP2 all Updates, IE 7.0, Office Pro 2007, Norton Int Sec 2008,
Quicken & Quickbooks 2008 versions, My two Raptor HDs have 50% free space
(not Raid). CPU is Intel 3.6, 2 GHz Ram, DSL Router, Wireless networked to
laptop although seldom used but I did have the Laptop on when these errors
were produced.

My Desktop recently returned having had a new Power Supply 650W installed.
When returned, besides having my HDs in wrong, a CPU Fan Error on boot and a
Dev Mgr HD entry foreign to me for which Windows brought forth drivers on
booting the first time, I saw dozens of repeated error 2011.

I researched and when I saw it pertained to a Server, I thought it was their
Server whereas mine is a stand alone computer one user and didn't pursue it
further. I returned the computer to get these things "fixed" and the HD entry
in Device Mgr taken out. All seemed to be running fine.

In Network connections I've disabled their "Local Area Connection 2" using a
different device.

These Error 2011 entries didn't reappear when I was using it until this
evening when I saw ia length of 10 inches and it's frightening.

Hope I've given enough information that u can suggest a fix or and/or tell
me how serious this is. Why would I be getting this error when I'm not on a
Server?
I'm reluctant to return it to that Shop so hopefully it's something a Novice
can adjust. Thx for any suggestions. ...

Andrew Thx for responding. I did see that but
I dismissed it as I haven't got Norton AntiVirus I've got Norton Security
Internet 2008 - on second thought, I guess it's all the same. I've had it
installed for months and never have these errors been produced.

Oh Cripes .. I just did a Registry Search for IRPStackSize, twice exactly as
I typed here and nothing came up.
I wonder if someone knows a Site that has a Registry file I could merely
click on to get the results in the Registry. I've changed real minor things
but never have I added anything like suggested.

I guess I'm going to either live with this or read this KB article over a
dozen times to know what to do. It scares me to even think about attempting
this change.

If I did venture in, which I doubt I would, what size would I put in - the
WXP Default size 15? Thx Andrew but me thinks it's too advanced for me.

Well Andrew I did the Deed on the Laptop. I entered the Default Size 15.

I've since Rebooted/Shutdown both the lLaptop and Desktop a few times and
the Error hasn't reappeared.

I didn't enter it in the Desktop but now wondering if maybe I should. The
Desktop is void of this IRPStackSize entry as was the Laptop.
Advice as to doing so would be appreciated.

Also suggestions as to the size that should be entered in either computer.
One Post I read the size of 30 was advised. This size, so far, seems to be
adequate
but perhaps to be sure a somewhat higher size would be suitable.

Been there, done that (I also had Norton a while back). Changed the
stack size to 20 (0x14) have not had any problems since (this was a year
or so ago). Ran into it trying to access shared folders off my main
machine.
Have not had any issues since. Norton (Symantec) and AOL are no
longer allowed in the house - and we are all much happier

Hi Mike! I abandoned Norton a few yrs ago but was convinced to buy the 2008!
I'll not be convinced again. What are u using now?

Did u put the IRP... entry in your main computer too?

What does your entry 20 (0x14) mean. The 20 is the size which I may use too
but I don't relate to (0x14)

I'd like to find a Site that shows pictures of Registry changes to follow.
I made it through but not knowing what to expect, I was super apprehensive.
My initial entry was wrong but was still able to hit Cancel and start again.
It's such a pleasure to not see that string of errors. I have a couple more
I'll have to research. I found the solution for one last night but it took
hours. It's hard when u don't know what they're referencing. LOL ...
