IrfanView - adding multiple Comments?

Terry Pinnell

In IrfanView, when adding a Comment to a JPG, what does this message
mean please?
"Note for multiple files edit: Same comment will be added to all
subsequent files."

Exactly how do you get the same comment added to all files in a folder
please?

I want only an initial string to be common to all, before I add more,
so this would be a useful facility. Especially if the clipboard is
being used to add the rest.

When adding comments to image files in Irfanview using Ctrl-T,
IV retains your comments, so they can be used again and again.
This will do what you want IIUC.

If you were to add the same comment to a bunch of files and then go
to each one to add something unique alongside, you'll rarely get the
alignment exact and it could look a mess.

Thanks, but I think you're talking about TEXT.

Comments are accessed via Image > Information > Comment and that is
where the message I described appears.

I want only an initial string to be common to all, before I add more,
write a little text file [maybe using "copy con filename" from dos] or
with an ascii text editor : textfilename

Get a copy of jhead which runs from a dos prompt.
Give command: jhead -du -dt -ci textfilename *.jpg

and you will insert the comment [-ci] as well as deleting thumbnails
and extraneous file information.

A typical camera adds a thumbnail with information between 5 & 55K .
Your files will all have the same comment, and they will be smaller.
Absolutely nothing in the picture itself will be modified.
Jhead can do much more.
Jhead should be available from:
http://www.tinyapps.org

OK. You didn't make that clear.

Anyone please?

Anyone please?

Q: How to change JPG IPTC/Comment data for many images (batch
mode)?
A: In the Thumbnails window, select many JPG images/files and use
the menu JPG Lossless Operations à Set IPTC data/Comment to selected
thumbs. The data for the first image is applied to all files. The IPTC
dialog offers additional options.
