Hi

I am having a problem with my laptop not seeing IR devices. I am told I need
to turn on the IrDA in Control Panel but there is no entry for it.
How do I get an IR section in Control Panel?

thanks

Daniel

Check the BIOS to see 1) If there's an IrDa on/off
function, and 2) Make sure it's turned on . . .

There is no mention of IR in my BIOS, in fact there is not
much coice at all, I am running a Compaq N800v Laptop.

Does your laptop have a inbuilt Infrared port or do you use a IrDA/USB
adaptor instead? In your control panel do you have an icon in there called
"Wireless Link" ?

Go to C:\WINDOWS\system32 and look for the file irprops.cpl
If there right click it and select "open with control panel"

Thanks

I have found the file but cannot find Control Panel in the "Open With"
Dialogue box.

Can you help me with that please

thanks

Daniel

Try right clicking that file again and choose "open with" a box should pop up
and under recommended programs "Windows Shell Common Dll" should be mentioned
if so tick the box "Always use the selected program to open this kind of
file" and OK that.

Is all well with infrared devices in Device Manager? Other than removing
Infrared from the device manager rebooting and letting Windows re-install
everything I'm all out of suggestions. Hopefully one of the experts in this
group will pick up where I left off with other suggestions. Good luck :)

No worries, your help got me someway to working out what is wrong, at least
I know about the irprops file and how to open a Control Panel file.
I suspect the irprops.cpl file is corrupt, I will run a sfc/scannow and see
what happens.

thanks for your help

Daniel
