IRDA support

Hi All,
I have trouble to enable IRDA on my XPe device. I believe I have missed some
components.
The issue is: When my XPe device's IRDA LED is near to my XP based notebook
computer, my notebook computer can sense the IRDA activity, and the IR icon
will be appeared on tray bar, but my XPe device has nothing show up in the
same time.
I have tested with both embedded IRDA port and an external USB IRDA device,
both of them failed. (I can see wireless link in my control panel allowing
me config the IRDA settings)

Need help to point out what is missing in my build.

Regards,
Yong

John,

You may probably want to check if the following components are in your image:
"IrDA Fast Infrared Port"
"Netirda Inf"
"Class Installer - Infrared Devices"
"Device: Infrared"
"Infrared Support"

Hi,
I have "ALi Fast Infrared Controller" instead of "IrDA Fast Infrared Port" in my build,
And also I do not have "Device: Infrred" in by build, but after I added this in, I do not see any differences.
Will those two items make differences to make the IrDA work?

I will go ahead and have a try.

Thanks,
Yong

Yong,

I don't think you have to replace the "ALi Fast Infrared Controller" component by the one I mentioned if you got that component listed by TAP.
You know better what Infrared Controller you've got on your hardware.

All you need there is the "irnsc.inf". So make sure the "Infrared Support" component included, which is probably the case since it is a dependency of both components mentioned.

If it still does not work you have one of possible issues:
- Hardware does not work. Then install XP Pro and make sure it works there.
- Problems with driver. Check out \windows\SetupApi.log for more info if this is the case. Also, Device Management or devcon may be helpful to you here.
- Problem with shell support of the Irda. What shell do you use? After all try that with XPProEmulation image (www.xpefiles.com).

The "Device: Infrared" is just to bring the Infrared Devices class installer.

Dear John,

Did you resolved your problem?
I met the same one with you. And I am using the same irda hardware!
Please help me out if you succeed.

My symptom is that when I uninstall the "ALi Fast Infrared Controller" from
the Device manager, and reboot, it will show the icon and connect to host pc
smoothly.
But when rebooted, everything roll back to the failure condition.

Great thanks!

OK, I found the root cause here.
This problem occurs because of a race condition that occurs at startup
between the Irmon service and the Winlogon service. This problem is
known to occur with certain portable computers.

We have experimented it out, and microsoft has admited it, please view
the following link for details:
