iPod trouble

I got an iPod for Christmas. I have two XP Pro computers and went to
use it on my main computer.

I installed iTunes and upgraded it.

It started downloading my "My Pictures", but got stuck with a picture
that it didn't recognize. I looked at that picture with Windows,
and it didn't see it either, so I replaced it with a good version from
another computer.

Then I tried importing a CD, and every time I tried, iTunes aborted. I
uninstalled iTunes, rebooted, installed it and upgraded it again, and
started it again. That picture was still bad, and it still aborted.
Every time I start iTunes it tries to copy that picture. I suppose I
could delete it, but I opened it with Paint and saved it - it should
work.

I went to the Apple store and they gave me a phone number to call. I
called tha phone number and after a few minutes found that this was my
one free call. I can subscribe to a service or pay $39 per call in
the future.

They had me open the CD using Windows Media Player and import a couple
of songs, so I ripped a couple of songs.

Then they asked what security I was using - Sygate - they had me
disable it (I don't like that idea - I need it for my work VPN). I
did so, but it didn't help.

Then they had me run iTunes diagnostics (shown below). They said it
isn't their problem. I mentioned that the CD drive that I use is a
DVD drive and they said, that was my problem, so I moved it to the
CD/CDW drive and got the same problems. Actually, I don't know which
drive produced the diagnostics. Windows says my CD drivers are
up-to-date and can't find any better matches.

If you have multiple drives on the same IDE or SCSI bus, these drives
may interfere with each other.
Some computers need an update to the ATA or IDE bus driver, or Intel
chipset. If iTunes has problems recognizing CDs or hanging or crashing
while importing or burning CDs, check the support site for the
manufacturer of your computer or motherboard.

So I went to my other computer. I installed iTunes, but needed to
upgrade it to 7 to work with my iPod. I try upgrading it, and it
can't install Quicktime "The path
'C:\DOCUME_1\Temp\is7A\QuickTime.msi' cannot be found." I searched
for one and pointed to it, but it still fails.

The older version of QuickTime cannot be removed. Contact your
technical support group. OK

I tried going to Windows and uninstalling Quicktime, and it prepares
to uninstall, but does nothing.

How do I uninstall a QuickTime that doesn't want to uninstall?
