Ipconfig /renew Access is Denied

I tried to post this already but am not finding the threat, so here goes again:

I have been having trouble with my computer lately and when I got to it this
morning I found that it had no internet connection. Actually it had turned
itself off too (the computer). Anyway, when I try to use ipconfig /renew I
get an error that states "Access is Denied"

I tried to uninstall the network adapter and reinstall to create a new
network connection. That did not work, I still cannot access the Internet
and cannot utilize ipconfig /renew. I get the same error.

Any help is greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

It really depends on what you mean by "having trouble with my computer
lately". It could be hardware failures or malware. There's no way to
tell from your post.

Is the computer clean?

If yes and you want more help, post back with a better description of
your computer and the troubles you've been having. Here's a link to
show you what sort of detail you should include in your post:

Basically, my computer has been shutting off on its own. Sometimes I leave
it on overnight and come back in the morning and it is off. Also, I've been
getting stupid pop-ups and things of that nature.

The computer is working but cannot access the internet whatsoever...so I
cannot run any of those links that you listed below. I'm on a different
computer right now.

I tried a bunch of other things like net shell reset catalog and net shell
ip reset but nothing is working. The only real problem I am having is that I
cannot access the internet nor get any IP address assigned to the computer.

The first thing you need to do is clean up the computer. Obviously you
will need to get information, tools, updates, etc. from a different
known-clean computer with an Internet connection and either a cd burner
or have a usb thumbdrive with enough capacity to transfer the files.

The alternative is to take the machine to a professional computer repair
shop (not your local version of BigStoreUSA) and have them clean it up
and diagnose the sudden shutdown issue. The latter may or may not be
connected with your evident malware.

Thanks.

I have 2 computers here that I can use to get stuff off the Internet to help
clean up the computer. What do you think are the best steps in cleaning up
and diagnosing the issue?

Any suggestions?

Tim,

The best way to clean up a computer is to save your stuff to CD or to
another computer and hten reformat the hard drive and install the OS.
That's the best way.
hardware faiilures Do turn off the computer, so don't discard the
possibility of having a bad power supply.

hope this helps,
RT
