ipconfig not responding

I opened command window using cmd
When I run ipconfig the window shows sand clock and that's all.
Same result whan I start it from
c:\windows\system32 directory

I can connect to the internet (I'm using USB wireless adapter).
My router reports IP address 192.168.2.3
But when I ping itself on 192.168.2.3 it times out
Ping localhost gives no response at all: window hangs
I can ping the router at 192.168.192.1

I think all this issues prevent me from connecting to the print server on my
router 192.168.2.1

Does anybody have any clue?

I'll give you two starting points. First, check all network components and
services.

Second, look for LSP / Winsock corruption.

Please let us know if any of these suggestions are of any help. What you learn
may help others in the future, and that's the purpose of these forums.

I'm having a similar problem. I stay connected to internet, but keep getting
PAGE CANNOT BE DISPLAYED after a few minutes. My cable co pinged and it's ok
but they determined XP keeps losing my IP address. I can function using the
ipconfig /renew command but I need a permanent solution.

Judy,

Though your symptoms are similar, your problem may not be. It's to everybody's
benefit, including yours, that you start a new thread, with a unique and
descriptive subject.
