I am running XP Home on my laptop. In the command window when enter ipconfig
/all, or even without the all, I simple get "Windows IP Configuration" as a
response. I used to get the detail. What has changed or what do I need to do
to get it back?

This sounds like TCP/IP corruption. Try resetting TCP/IP, as in step 7 in this
article. Then re installing the network drivers, as in step 8. Finally, look
for LSP / Winsock corruption.
