I am trying to get road runner on Windows XP Home and it
won't let me relase the current IP address. How do I do
this. I have tried the from IE tools Connections and
have had no luck...

THank you in advance for any help or suggestions

Are you connected directly to the cable modem via USB or Ethernet cable?
What happens when you go to a command prompt and type:

ipconfig /release <enter>
ipconfig /renew <enter>

?
What's the reason you want to do this anyway, if you don't mind my asking?

Does the network connection have an IP address of 169.254.x.x? If so,
the address wasn't assigned by a DHCP server, so it can't be released
by Ipconfig.

That address indicates that something is preventing the connection
from communicating with Road Runner's DHCP server. Try turning the
cable modem off and back on and re-connecting. Try the tips here:

If none of that helps, I'd contact Road Runner for help.
