IP Routing problem with Win2k Prof

S

Simon

Hi Everyone,

I know his isn't strictly RAS or RRAS but I really am
struggling...

Scenerio.... I have several Win2k Prof clients that can
connect to the internet no probs, they then load an Avaya
VPN client to connect to the remote VSU and they get an ip
address ok but they can't ping anything. I have proven
that the accounts are working ok on the VSU on other
machines etc...

The bit I don't understand is that if I connect the 2k
laptop to a small network with a machine sharing it's
internet connection using ICS, the laptop will connect to
the vPN and I can ping no probs, pinging doesn't wotk only
if the laptop uses DUN to initiate the internet part of
the link?

I have tried everything I can think of, I have removed IP,
I have re-installed the VPN client, I have patched the
client, I have checked the routes using "route PRINT" and
compared the entries to a machine that works ok and
everything is identical.....

Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Simon.

If I understand your issue correctly, you are connected and working to the
Internet, then you establish a VPN tunnel and your ability to ping remote
systems or access the internet.

If this is the case this is how it works by default. What is happening is
your Default Gateway is being replaced with the new default gateway of the
vpn tunnel. Some vpn clients have the option to not use default gateway on
remote network.
But if you uncheck this then your vpn tunnel routing might break, so
honestly it depends on what you are trying to accomplish. So what is the
bigger picture?
