ip conflict with another application on my network

ok i sort of have a problem.... i've figured out how to get xbox live
to work and what was wrong with what i was doing, but now theres a
little message in the bottom of my desktop saying that there is an ip
address conflict with another application on my network and the icmp
keeps failing when i run my network test on my 360, what am i supposed
to do about this and how can i fix it?

Since you haven't told us anything about your network setup and the
devices on it (except that you have an Xbox), you can't get specific
help.

The error message means exactly what it says: two of the devices on your
network have the same IP address, which is not permitted.

If you have assigned static IP addresses, then go and look at all of
them and make notes. Two of them will have the same IP address; change
one of them. If you haven't assigned static IP addresses, you may need
to do so on at least one of them - perhaps on the Xbox.

To just see the IP addresses, Start>Run>cmd [enter]
ipconfig /all [enter]

To change IP/DNS settings:

Control Panel>Network Connections>Local Area Connection for whichever
network adapter you are using. Right-click on that to get its
Properties. Double-click the TCP/IP entry and you will see where you
can change the IP address.

For the Xbox, I believe you have to use setup from within the Xbox
itself to change its IP settings.
