ip configuration for connecting 2 pcs thru crosscable

what should be ip configuaration for connecting 2 pc s through cross over
cable .Both computers have Win XP pro installed.what shud be:
first machine: second machine:
ip ip
subnet mast subnet mast
default gateway default gateway

prefered DNS prefered DNS
alternate DNS alternate DNS

i tried 1 pc as ip:192.168.0.1 second pc ip as 192.168.0.2
subnetmast:255.255.255.0
rest the same still i cannot share files
i cannot see other computers name in network nieghbourhood
Both pc 's have same workgroup
and i cannot ping each other.
plugging the lan cable gives the message on the taskbar "lan is now
connected"
as the connection name is lan

plz help

The configuration you tried is a good one, but you also have to turn on File
and Printer sharing on both systems and if you want to share an internet
connection turn on ICS on the "HOST" system.........(Try running the Network
Wizard).......

do we need to fill all the five ip boxes?or just the above 2. i have enabled
the file sharing on both pc's
