IP change of DNS server

Jari Sevon

Hi,

We don't have so much experience of Windows 200o DNS server, so....

1. We need to change subnet so we are forced to change our
DNS server IP.

Is there a way to do "global search and replace" to all
domains on DNS server?

2. Was there something special we need to do with our
registrar which is holding the DNS servers domain...
IOW If DNS adress is NS1.FOODOO.COM and we want
have this FOODOO.COM domain also in NS1.FOODOO.COM...

Or is it enough if this FOODOO.COM have DNS servers
as IP addresses in registrar?

TIA,

There is a tool called dnscmd in the WIndows SUpport Tools located on your
CDROM. It's a command line tool that you can batch the changes.

All you need to do is change the ns1.foodoo.com IP address at the registrar.
The foodoo.com zone NS info and hosts that exist under it would have been
changed with your dnscmd batch mentioned above.
Or is it enough if this FOODOO.COM have DNS servers
as IP addresses in registrar?

Not sure what this means.

Thanks, I'll take look at it!

IOW This means I just change DNS addresses of foodoo.com on registrar.
So in registrar database, all the other our domains have DNS's as
NS1.FOODOO.COM
and foodoo.com domain itself have DNS's as IP adresses.....is this correct?

It doesn't seem to be very simple task. Can you show some direction how to
do it?

Isn't this common problem, I am surprised there is no easier solution?

Not sure, other than searching the Script Center (networking section) at

or the scripts at:

Sorry
