IP address problem

I using the "cmd"

I ping 172.16.5.14, success ping 172.16.5.14

but I ping 172.16.5.014, then it auto change to 172.16.5.12 then
success ping

why 014 change to 12 ??

14 Octal is 12 Decimal. I believe that a leading zero signifies that
the number is octal versus decimal.
