InWiin A500 noisy - recommend replacement?

My InWin A500, which I've had since '97 or so, is noisy and has always
been, through my first P55C to my current Thunderbird. It seems to
amplify fan sounds, while most other cases work to muffle them. It's
like a resonance chamber. The PSU was replaced a number of years ago
with a 300W Antec. I'm pretty sure it's the case, since I built an
almost identical system, with an AOpen HX45A, and it's much quieter.

So, I'm looking for recommendations for a quieter case. I don't want to
spend lots, and I'm not interested in major modding or overclocking. I
just want a decent, reliable and quiet performer. I've been considering
the Antec SLK1600.

Any comments are appreciated.

Probably not the case but the fans. You can lower them to 7v. How about a 1'
square on roofing tar painted on each side panel? (been meaning to try this)

That roofing tar *would* be cheaper...I used Dynamat, that you get at
BestBuy and other places that sell sound deadening for audio speaker setups.
Dynamat comes in squares and you can cut it and then it 'sticks' on the case
and is very thin, but has really high muffling qualities. I put it on one of
my computers that had a pattern of holes for air in the side panels (an
Antec case), but every sound would come right through the holes...I covered
the holes with the Dynamat and it really quieted things down. Computer even
ran cooler with a fan in the front and one in rear, same config. as I had
before I applied the 'stuff'. My 2 fans are running on about 6 and 1/2 volts
each.
