Inviting Outlook Users to Event from Entourage through Internet

We have a PowerBook and an IBM ThinkPad.

On the PowerBook, we are running Microsoft Office 2004 with Entourage 2004.

On the ThinkPad, we are running Microsoft Office XP with Outlook 2002.

For some reason, if I use the 'Invite' feature on a calendar event in
Entourage and send the calendar event via a normal SMTP server to Outlook,
the message comes into the Inbox as a normal email message instead of a
calendar invite with the accept, decline, tentative features.

It works fine the other way around (i.e. Outlook can send a Meeting Request
and Entourage can process it as a Calendar Event to accept, decline, etc...)

This is quite annoying as my wife and I cannot share our calendar very
easily. From what I've read, the only true option is to buy Exchange.

Any ideas??

Enable Outlook Rich Text as the sending format from the Entourage client.
