Hi All,

I need some information in security rights,I will tell my requirement
with some examples.

Imagine i have Folder named A it was shared folder,with in Folder A,3
subfolders available named B,C and D.I have two user named A,and B.

I want to delegate below mentioned rights users A and B:

For User A:

Need full rights for Folder A and its subfolders B,C and read rights for D.

For User B:

I want delegate the full rights access to Folder A and subfolder B only,he
should not view sub folders C and D(Mean if he open folder A,he should view
only the folder B)

Now i thing you will clear about my requirements for User A i know how to
give the rights,but for User B i dont know how to give the rights so anybody
please let me know how to do this one.

I tried this option its not working.User B able to open folder A and
subfolder B and access denied forsubfolder B and C.But my requirement is he
should able to view folder B and C.Pls find below for detail.

After giving the rights as per your instruction for User B he can able to
view like mentioned below:

Note: + -- Main folder; ++ -- Subfolder

+ Folder A - Able to open

++Folder B - Able to open

++Folder C - Not Able to open (Access Denied)

++Folder D - Not Able to open (Access Denied)

My Requirement:

+ Folder A - Able to open

++Folder B - Able to open

Note: My requirement states that after opening Folder A he should not view
Folder C and D at all.

So pls tell any other way to do this.

Sorry, my understanding of deny View is "deny View folder contents" your
meaning is "deny View folder name". You may end the folder name in "$"
but that will hide it for all, or you may move folder "C" and "D" into a
"denied access" folder to hide the name. See below.

Note: + -- Main folder; ++ -- Subfolder
+ Folder A - Able to open

++Folder B - Able to open

++ "Deny Access folder" -Not Able to open (Access Denied)

++Folder C - Not Able to open (Access Denied) (not seen)

++Folder D - Not Able to open (Access Denied) (not seen)

Thanks for your reply Bob,I understand your points,but instead of moving
folder "C" and "D" to "Deny Access folder" any other way is available in
windows,because my actual requirement is "Folder A" is VSS server database
folder if we move "C&D" user will not able to work with some projects,it
should be in Root folder (Folder A only).

Thanks

Sorry. The matter that the folder name is visible is immaterial. The
contents are not accessible.

Thanks for your reply bob,i underthe folder invisible is doesn't matter,if
the user have deny rights.Actually this requirement for our VSS server
database,it was a shared folder,user should have modify rights to the total
"VSS"shared folder then only they able to work,but one folder called "Data"
,this folder having the all projects releted files,if the user already have
the rights modify,if the user able to seen means they able to delete it,thats
why i what to restrict them.Find below for detail.
Note: + -- Main folder; ++ -- Subfolder

User A:

+ VSS - (Having the rights to modify) (Able to seen)

++Temp - (Having the rights to modify) (Able to seen)

++Data - (Having the rights to modify) (Able to seen)

++Users - (Having the rights to modify) (Able to seen)

User B:

+ VSS - (Having the rights to modify) (Able to seen)

++Temp - (Having the rights to modify) (Able to seen)

++Data - (Having the rights to modify) (not seen)

++Users - (Having the rights to modify) (not seen)

I think now you will understand my requirement lot.

Thanks

If someone knows the name and you give them rights to modify, then
whether or not the folder is "visible" is immaterial. You may "hide the
folder" by appending "$" to the name. This will make the folder hidden
for ALL users, you do not get to pick and choose.

Hi bob i understand the points you mentioned,dont worry about the someone
know the folder name,also instead of $ share can you tell me if any other
features available in windows.It will helpful for us in FTP server also,in
the way of hiding Unnecessary folder disply to all clients running in same
FTP.

Thanks
