invisible downloads

I'm on dialup (still!!) and lately I've noticed the dialup icon on the tray
is busy downloading something even though I'm not surfing or doing anything.
And I don't see the Windows update icon, soI have no idea what's being
downloaded. How can I find out?

My Spy Sweeper does automatic downloads.
My Virus Scan does automatic downloads.

They were set up that way in, I believe, either options or preferences. You
might have installed something that does it too. Better check.
