inverter or backlight defect

During booting the screen of my FS Amilo d 6800 flashed on for an instance
and then goes back dark.

There is probably a problem with the backlight of the LCD, the question is
what's defect inverter , lamp or complete LCD. If it is only the inverter i
let it repair otherwise it cost me 350 EUR for a new screen ( a little bit
too expensive for this notebook )

thanks in advance

sorry about the crappy English

Check the lid switch. Many laptops will turn the backlight off if you close
the lid. A piece of dirt may have stuck the switch down.

If the lamp is faulty you may be able to replace it if you can carefully
remove it from the screen.

There are places you can buy lamps from. Not sure where, though, in
your part of the world. You could start at http://www.jkllamps.com/

I recently had the same problem with a Dell Inspiron 5000.

First, check the screen with a strong light shining on it. If you can make
out your normal desktop etc. showing then it's not the LCD it's something
with either the inverter, the bulb, or the cable.

In my case I replaced the inverter twice (incorrectly guessed a DOA), then
the bulb, (which can be done.. but is not for the faint of heart) And in the
end it turns out that it was the ribbon cable from the video card to the LCD
and inverter. The cheapest part..... <sigh>

good luck
