Inventory Tracking Software

Lee Babcock

I'm trying to find an Inventory Tracking Application for a friend of
mine. There used to be all kinds of this as freeware, often done as a
spreadsheet application. I have spent hours looking and find lots of
stuff that says free or freeware, but it turns out to be trial ware or
free download.
I've downloaded and installed 7 programs that seem to be freeware, but
upon/after installationn prove not to be.
His needs are simple as he is selling antique items, higher priced stuff
and needs to track origin, cost, selling price, description (long) and
the ability to store a photo would be nice.
Does anyone know of anything like this?

This could be done easily with the database in OpenOffice 2.0. It
would, however, require you to create the database

Lee;

"Base," the database in OpenOffice would do nicely here. There are a
lot of advantages (free, portability, cross-OS, etc). The only problem
would be to set it up.

For those who've mucked around with databases, it's easy. For those
that haven't, there's a moderate learning curve.

A functional demonstration of how to set it up is here:

A really "pretty" demo is usually at the following url but seems to be
down today: http://www.digitaldistribution.com/about/lessons/

Craig..... I could set up something myself in Excel, but he won't live
long enough to pass the learning curve. <g>

He has trouble checking his email!
I looked for spreadsheet NG's, found one, and it is inactive. A few
years ago there were many of them and small apps were freely available.

OK Lee, if something else comes to mind, I'll post.

Here are 2 to look at.

Aquarius Database

Handy Quote

Thanks for the suggestions

I'm familiar with agile, having used it in the past, but it's way beyond
what he needs.

I looked a markmason, and it's seems like a great program, but again way
over his head. Actually, markmason looks in principal like $Dollar Man
Accounting. It's a database with a customizable front end so you can
design your own input. Output is by a report generator.
Seems too good to be true for freeware.

I was searching in groups from back in the 90,s and found two references
to small inventory programs. One was from PCMag but they are such a
PIA to download from now.

I looked at the other one and it has migrated to a new name. Found it,
downloaded it and played with it. Looks good. Simple to use and
customizable.
It is done to track home/business possessions for insurance purposes and
is produced by an insurance institute.

Following is the link.
BGTW, download form works with a made up email address. We have been
having very cold windy weather in Toronto the last week so I lied and
said I was in Florida! <g>

Dear Lee,

I can suggest STATLOOK or UPLOOK
However is not a freeware, I can suggest you really special conditions
- maybe even a free of charge license in return of references.
Interested? Try 30 day trial and let me know it is it what you are
looking for.

He did offer me a free copy. He needed name, address and the rest. But
I don't give those away.
