Inventory Control Database Calculations

I am new to this.

I am trying to do a simple calculation to add into the
Inventory Control database template. I would like to take
calculations of products sold from the Purchase Order
template and add that summary figure for product into
the "Units sold" column in the Inventory Transactions
Table in the Inventory Control temmplate. This would
automate inventory counts.

But, I keep running into snags.

Does anyone know how to handle this? I thought of running
three seperate queries, total sums of UnitsReceived minus
total sum of UnitsShrinkage minus the total sum of
UnitsOrdered, but I keep coming up with blank fields.

Any ideas?

It's not the whole story, because inventory always involves some oddies:
serial number tracking, FIFO requirements, multiple warehouses, and so on.
