invalid installation

purchased xp pro from a local shop in town, after about 2-3 months of using
it, windows pops up and says its invalid, yet it is unable to prove my key is
invalid so i cant get anywhere with the 'process' of fixing it, it basically
dead ends at this and i am undable to email microsoft about this because i
have an invalid installation, was i ripped off @ the dealer?
