I have a Old Dell and when I went to reinstall XP Professional the genuine
advantage told me that my Product activation key that's on the case is
invalid?

I contacted Dell and it's out of thier hands due to the computer is old and
out of warranty. Is their anything Microsoft can do for me?

Actually you can ask microsoft to look up youre key, they have it on file.If
its a renewable one,youre in luck,they'll take care of you,if its not,its
dells
lack of consideration to you not to renew it..

The Dell OEM product key for Windows XP will only work
with a genuine Dell Windows XP Reinstallation CD.

Incorrect. A genuine Dell OEM XP installation disk does NOT require the
input of a product key, it uses an image type key that is pre-activated. The
product key on the COA sticker will not match the key on the system, and the
COA key can in fact be used to install from Microsoft OEM installation
media, but it will require a phone call to Microsoft to get activated.

Actually, this is the key you need to use:

MVF4D-W774K-MC4VM-QY6XY-R38TB

You can find details of how to use it in the TechNET docum, ent:

Preserving OEM Pre-Activation when Re-installing Windows XP
