Intraparagraph returns (^l)

With MS Word 2003, I am not able to find intraparagraph returns with the
symbol, ^l. Do I need to change something in the options menu before I use it?

I am trying to follow the suggestion below.

As a general issue, use find/replace. ^p matches hard paragraph returns,
and ^l matches hard intraparagraph returns.

The code ^l finds a manual line break (inserted with Shift+Enter). If you
display nonprinting characters, you can see these in your document as arrows
bent at a right angle (see
http://word.mvps.org/FAQs/Formatting/NonPrintChars.htm). A search for line
breaks will not find "soft" line breaks where Word wraps text naturally.

Occasionally text pasted from the Web or an email will have something that
looks like a line break or paragraph break but isn't quite. You can
sometimes find these with ^13.
