internet - system shutdown

P

Peter Morris

Every time I access the internet (dial up connection) my system shuts down
shortly afterwards. About 3 minutes after I connect the following message
pops up.

<<This system is shutting down. Please save your work. Unsaved
changes will be lost. AUTHORIZED BY NT AUTHORITY/SYSTEM

windows must restart because remote procedure call (RPC)
terminated unexpectedly >>

Then it counts down 60 seconds and shuts down.

What can I do about this, please?

This problem only started a couple of days ago. I've tried running
anti-virus and spyware detectors without success.

You are most likely infected with a virus.

To stop the rebooting, right click on the task bar, choose task manager,
processes tab, look for msblast.exe. Highlight it and click end process.
Then visit the sites below for the removal and patch info.

Norton Anti Virus

Also make sure to follow the links to the Microsoft pages for the patch or
visit windows update for the patch after you remove it.

I connect for 4 minutes.

Once you download the news articles you need you can read them off-line.

which takes longer than 4 minutes.

You have the Blaster worm!!

First, stop the bug from running by hitting CTRL-ALT-DELETE and
bringing up the task manager. Look for msblast.exe in the list, and
kill it. Now your computer won't shut down, but the bug is still there
and will run the next time you start your machine. Go to this URL to
find out how to get rid of it:

tim..as the op said it isnt stopping the rebooting when he executes the stop
command for mblast.exe..

what yu have to do is get to the symantec website and download the fix..

all inside yr 4 minute window...

whenyu have the fix run it .. this will stop it rebooting...

now run a decent virus checker..(not norton )

or apply the patch that is suggested after the fix to close the offending
port..

rebooting in between these tasks is a must.

now thats pobably the last time anyone in here will give this info out so
take heed..

even if yu havent been infected get these files and store them away just in
case..

regards slayer

I just finished two removals of the virus for clients. It worked for me. I
end tasked on the program, no shutdowns, turned on the firewall, no
shutdowns, used the symantec removal tool, all fixed. Like most in here I
have actually removed this virus already. Most just post what they read, I
actually did it.

It will stop rebooting. I have done it twice. End the msblast.exe file and
turn on the firewall. No more shutdowns or reboots.
Then you apply the ms patch, turn off system restore(essential), run the
removal tool, all fixed.
