Internet Shortcuts opening wrong program

Hello All:

I created a new shortcut on my desktop to an internet site
I frequent, whenever I try to open said shortcut I get the
printer options dialog box. When I scroll over the
shortcut the miniture pop up box gives me the correct http
address. I am unsure as to what is going on. Could
someone help?

I appreciate any input! Thank you! =)

How did you create the shortcut? Did you go to the site and then send the
shortcut to your desktop. If no, try the above and see if that takes you to
the site. If yes, start by making sure your antivirus is up to date and
scan your system. Also check your system for any malware, download, install
and run Ad Aware:

I created the shortcut by right-clicking desktop and
clicking create shortcut . . . pasted correct address. I
am using Mozilla firefox as my web-browser, I don't think
that should be the problem, do you?

Thanks!

I still suggest, navigating to the website, once there, go to file, select
Send and select "Shortcut to Desktop. Then, close IE and test the shortcut.
There may be something in the path that you aren't seeing. You only need to
be off by one character to cause a problem and sometimes when we copy we can
miss a character when making the selection or accidentally pick up an extra
character. The method I've described, eliminates that possibility.

Thank you Mike:
I did go through IE and followed what you suggested,
however this still did not work. I updated to SP2 and then
I was not able to fully boot my PC, it just continued to
reboot itself. I went to safe mode and did a previous
restore and it is up and running again. Haven't tested the
shortcut yet though.

See Ramesh's post in this thread and check my response in the other thread
with regard to SP2.

You're welcome Michael. These problems always occur after changing the
default browsers (from IE to a third-party browser). From my observation,
third-party browsers usually remove the "Maychangedefaultmenu" registry key
for Internet Shortcuts Class ID and that's the root-cause of the problem.
Registering the shdocvw.dll fixes this.

BTW, the OP has confirmed that the problem is resolved (in a new thread in
this group).
