Having problems. Just hooked up an HP Photosmart C6180 AIO printer, fax, copier
thing. Next morning started getting Norton Internet Security Program Control
Msg. "High Risk. a program named hpqnrs08.exe is attempting to connect to a
computer at 192.168.0.3:427 using port 427. " Digitally signed: NO. Traffic
direction: Outbound. Do you know what what this means/is? HP customer serice
is helping me but can't seem to figure it out. Dell customer service
suggested it's a corrupt driver.

Concurrently, also getting another dialogue box which says "Internet Sharing
Configuration. c:\\windows\\system32\spoolsv.exe is attempting to change or
view this computers internet protection settings". In that box are buttons
for YES, NO, and MORE INFO. clicking MORE INFO yields nothing. Clicking NO
makes box go away for a few moments, but not long. It comes right back
moments later. Clicking "Don't show this dialogue box again" does nothing.
does this sound like anything you know? any insight you can offer would be
greatly appreciated.

i'm lost and confused

The file hpqnrs08.exe = HP Network Device Rediscovery Service ans it's a file for
HP Digital Imaging. My guess is that you installed all of the Software that was
included with the new All-in -one. One such application is for sharing your photo's
with others and that may be reason for any Network connection. If you're not going
to use it uninstall it via Control Panel > Add/Remove Programs.

Most likely you're speaking with a separate company hired by HP for tech support
and they have no clue about their own product.

Same deal, spoolsv.exe is for the printer and if you do not use a network printer
then set the rule in NIS Firewall > Programs to "Always block".

Depending on which NIS you have depends on how you access the firewalls "programs
and network configuration".

Brian,
Thank you so much for taking the time to answer my questions.

May I ask a couple other questions?

You mentioned whether I have a network printer. Um, i don't think so? I have
only one laptop using one new AIO printer, but it's Wireless. This is the
first time i've used a printer w/o a cable. Does that mean I have a network
printer?? I think not but am blonde enough to ask.

I have NIS 2005 i think, with Live Updates.

Also, do you know address is 192.168.0.3:427 or what computer is located
there if that makes sense?

THANK YOU for helping me

Nope, it just means you use a wireless printer. However since it's an all-in-one
it uses a modem for the fax which does connect to the WAN (Wide Area Network) ie: the
web.
I have NIS 2005 i think, with Live Updates.

Open NIS.
Click on Firewall > Configure button > Programs tab.

That's a LAN (Local Area Network) address. I wonder if your printer is a network
printer and that's the IP assigned (192.168.0.3) and Port (427) it uses. I'm going
to go have a peek at it's docs to see what's up.
THANK YOU for helping me

That's a Network printer which can be attached to a router with/without wires. You
probably installed the network software included with the printer, hence the reason
for the IP/Port. It also has an embedded web server which can be accessed via your
browser.

Read the manual and /or documentation that came with the printer on how to
configure it for a network or uninstall the network software.

If you need the doc, see:

Brian,
I have managed to follow your directions for the Firewall Settings, and
still the msg came up. So next I'm going to Uninstall the software that came
w/the HP AIO and try to set things up again. I will however do it in the
morning and my eyes are closing from exhaustion. THANK YOU so much for
helping me with this.
