Internet problems and Defrag problems

Everytime I go onto a website that doesn't work, I don't get the traditional

"Page not found" screen. I am now sent to some ad/like website with a search
engine and it would say on the top my page was not found.

How can I get rid of this?!

Ad Aware didn't work. Spybot didn't work. AVG Virus scanner didn't work.
Could I try reinstalling internet explorer (is it possible?)

Second, I think that defragging my computer would help a lot. So I defragged
my C drive. I also have an F drive and whenever I click analysis or defrag,
it restarts the computer. After logging back on, it says I recovered from a
serious error/problem. After sending the report to Microsoft, it said it is
caused by some driver. Any clues how to find it? When I try to click on the
link the helpsite gives me, it sends me to the internet optimizer error
screens.

Are your spybot, ad-aware, anti-virus and your operating
system all updated. There was an update release last
Friday regarding IE6 and Media Player. And NortonA-V had
a new definition Thursday I believe. Don't relie on
automatic update in windows. Best to use Help & Support
Center update feature weekly (Wednesday)

Maybe it's a BHO (Browser Helper Object) that's been installed without your
knowledge that's causing the behavior. Download and run BHODEMON. The
download is in ZIP file format. Extract the files to a folder, then double
click the file BHODemon.exe. You will see all the BHOs. Select one, and
click the Details button. A window will open with the option to Disable
that BHO. At the moment, the only BHOs that I have enabled are Flash, and
AdShield. If you're not quite sure which BHO might be causing the problem,
disable the one's you're unsure of, one at a time (rebooting after disabling
each one), until you find the culprit. Then re-enable the one's that didn't
cause the problem.

HORAH!

It was one of the BHO's I disabled.

But since that update that was released on Friday, my Internet Explorer
icons don't seem to work. The only way I can get an IE window to pop up is
by pushing the internet button on my keyboard...

And what about the defragging?

Well the thing is, the icons DON'T work. Only the keyboard hotkeys... This
happened after the Auto Update on Friday.

Vincent, if you can, do a System Restore back to Thursday, and then go to
the Update site and see if you are in need of any Critical Updates, and
download them and only them.
Auto Updates are known for causing a number of problems. You probably only
need a very few of the noncritical updates. Read their description and
decide before you download.

No. No icons work.

I don't really wanna do a system restore cuz I've done a lot of stuff
between Friday and Sunday.

I guess I can always undo the restore eh?

I'll give it a shot.

*thanks for the replies
