Hi Judith,
Thanks for the clarification. The first thing to look at are the steps in
this article:
314455 "Error 691" Error Message When You Try to Connect to Your ISP
http://support.microsoft.com/?id=314455
The remaining steps for troubleshooting this - if the above did not esolve
it, will depend on your form of connection.
Q1: Are you connecting via Dialup or Broadband?
<I mention this because some roadband connections require a dialup>
If Dialup, how recently did this stop working?
I mention this because if it was only recently, you might be able to use
System Restore to restore functionality. You wouldn't want to use System
Restore if the functionality has been broken for months or never worked:

XP

If you are using Dial-up and cannot use System Restore, you may have a
corrupt Dialup Connection and we might be able to resolve it by creating a
new connection.

| You are right - the problem is with the internet only. I have tried
reentering my my password as you suggested and it works only once. The
next time I turn off my computer than turn it back on, it is again an
invalid password (much longer than mine). I figure this is a security
issue with microsoft XP because I have a friend who uses Windows XP but has
a different virus protector and firewall installed and is having the same
problem.
