Internet ok, but can't network two computers

I should start by saying I'm not very knowledgeable about this stuff. My
husband and I have a wireless router and we have always had our two computers
networked so we could both print from the printer that is hooked to a
wireless whatchamacallit. My laptop started having trouble, so I sent it for
service and it came back like a brand new computer. I turned it on and it
was immediately able to access the internet with no problem, but I couldn't
see our network. So, we ran the Network Setup Wizard on both computers.

Now, my husband can see the MSHOME network, and he can see my laptop, but
when he tries to click on it, he gets a message saying he does not have
permission. I am able to see the MSHOME network, but when I click on it
(hoping to see it list my laptop and my husband's computer) I get the same
message- I do not have permission.

I called HP who serviced my laptop, and they directed me to the microsoft
page. I'm at my wits' end. Please help

OK, you're at the right place.

What we need right now is diagnostic logs. Please provide "browstat status" and
"ipconfig /all" from each computer, so we can diagnose the problem. Read this
article, and linked articles, and follow instructions precisely (you have to
download browstat!) to run, and copy, the diagnostic logs:

Here's for the laptop, I'll have to post the info for the desktop in a little
bit. I appreciate your response, and any help you can give:

<SNIP>

OK, so far we know:
# Both computers are on the same subnet 192.168.1/24, with same DHCP server
192.168.1.1.
# Both computers use the same external DNS servers.
# Both computers have acceptable node type, Unknown.
# Neither computer shows evidence of IPV6.

Now IPConfig shows us the characteristics of the low level networking protocol
IP (Internet Protocol), and so far, no problems are apparent. What we now need
is the browser diagnostics, as provided by browstat. Browstat will help us see
where to look next.

Or, you are welcome to continue diagnosing the problem, if you wish to read my
list of most likely problem causes, and how to diagnose them.

I'm sorry to be so ignorant. I'm trying to follow the directions, but I
don't know what to do. I downloaded browstat, and then in the command window
typed
browstat status
I got a message saying
'browstate' is not recognized as an internal or external command, operable
program or batch file.
What am I doing wrong?

It's OK, everybody starts out where you are. What folder did you copy
browstat.exe into?

It's on the desktop. When I double click on it, a window blinks open for a
fraction of a second then disappears. Nothing happens after that.
