Internet hangs -then DNS Error/email and IM does?

I recently upgraded from ME to XP Home. About 3 days
later, My IE6 will work for about 5 minutes then stops
working, yet my email and IM's work fine. Also, the
Network connection shows it's running fine.
I run on a home cable internet line.
Any thoughts from anyone?

I think the problem is via the home cable internet line. I
had this problem, too, and fixed it using DOS commands to
delete history, cookies and temp internet files. i also
downloaded ad aware sypware detection software and ran it.
