Hi

I just came across this in my WinXP Pro workstation, and it seems new to me.

When I click on View Network Connections, it shows 2 icons:
-One is Internet Connection under Internet Gateway.
-One is Local Area Connection under LAN or High Speed Internet.

What does the first one do ? How did it get there ? I right-click and
disable it, and I am still able to access internet.

After disabling it and if I double-click to open it, it re-enables and seems
to make some connection. When I look at its status, it shows 3 icons:
Internet ---- Internet Gateway ----My Computer. So again, what does it
really do ?

Please help explain.
Thanks
Steve

You haven't told us how you get to the Internet, so please repost with
that information, including the name of your ISP. Also, to be on the
safe side, what does a scan with a current antivirus program (meaning a
version not earlier than 2002 and using updated virus definitions)
show? Also, remove spyware with Spybot Search & Destroy from
www.safer-networking.org and Ad-aware from www.lavasoftusa.com. Be sure
to update these programs before running them. These programs are free,
so run them both since they complement each other. It is best to run
antivirus and spyware removal tools in Safe Mode.
