internet file sharing

E

2 Friends running home LANs (Windows 2000 and 2003 Domains) connected
to the internet over routers running NAT.

Can I enable file sharing across the internet to have him copy some
files? Im mainly looking for the ports to forward and to make sure its
possible.

Thanks

The only thing that might prevent you from doing this, is that because
of very serious bugs found in the microsoft CIFS protocols, many ISPs
have completely filtered these ports. Even despite being patched and
these very serious bugs not affecting you, it is still very unsecure to
run your SMB/CIFS network over the internet. If you would like to try,
although, you will need 445 (CIFS(SMB) over TCP) and/or 139 (NBT over
TCP --old style). Both will work yet 445 would be more efficient. I
hope that answers your question.
