does anyone know what programs can constantly change the
home page, every time the explorer is launched, as well as
place icons for advertisements on the desktop, every time
the explorer is invoked? This is on windows XP with all
the latest updates for the explorer(service pack 6.1 +
updates). cleaning temporary internet files and cookies,
does not make this go away. Also nothing appears in the
startup file or the task manager process list, unless of
course this task that runs this junk does not stay there
permanently. Would it help to wipe out and reinstall the
explorer?
Need some help with this...

Sounds like spyware or adware to me....Use adware 6 to get rid of your problem.

First eliminate any scumware.
See

Note that AdAware and SpyBot S & D will each catch some things the other
won't. Also, each need to be updated before every use, even when just
downloaded. There's also a lot more to do than just those two programs.

If trying everything at that site does not fix the problem please post back
in the same thread.
