When I try to use ie. it brings up a box headed Microsoft VisualC++ Runtime
library

Runtime Error
Program:c:\Program Files\Internet Explorer\iexplore.exe.
This application has requested the runtime to terminate it in an unusual way.
I am running XP home and ie. still works on the other users accounts just
not on mine! Iam not aware of anything unusual I was doing at the time. Any
ideas anyone?

Try uninstalling the Google toolbar using Control Panel-Add/Remove.
