Internet Explorer wont work

My daughter was using the computer and I don't know what she did but here is
the issue. Internet would not work at all anymore. I changed out my
wireless device and while I had an excellent connection I could not browse
anything. All other computers in the house worked fine. It is XP service
pack 2. I watched and packets were going back and forth. So I downloaded
IE7 and installed that and it still did not work. All of a sudden SP 3 was
there so I ran thatl Now I knew for sure that it was working, just not IE.
So I loaded firefox and that ran perfect. The other oddity is that my Itunes
no longer worked either. So there seems to be a corrupt file but how do I
find it?

I would NOT have installed IE7 or WinXP SP3 with the machine in its current
state (although the fact that Automatic Updates is functional was a good
sign).

Chances are that you're seeing the affects of a hijackware infection.

1. See if you can download/run the MSRT manually:
http://www.microsoft.com/security/malwareremove/default.mspx

2. Run this online scan (in safe mode w/networking, if need be):
http://onecare.live.com/site/en-us/center/howsafe.htm

3. Run additional checks for hijackware, including posting your hijackthis
log to an appropriate forum.

When all else fails, HijackThis v2.0.2
(http://aumha.org/downloads/hijackthis.exe) is the preferred tool to use (in
conjuction with some other utilities). HijackThis will NOT fix anything on
its own, but it will help you to both identify and remove any
hijackware/spyware with assistance from an expert. **Post your log to

http://forums.spybot.info/forumdisplay.php?f=22,
http://aumha.net/viewforum.php?f=30, or another appropriate forum for review
by an expert in such matters, not here.**

If the procedures look too complex - and there is no shame in admitting this
isn't your cup of tea - take the machine to a local, reputable and
independent (i.e., not BigBoxStoreUSA) computer repair shop.

Thank you for the response, I did what you said and the software stated that
there was no infection... Somehow I think it is a dll issue. One time
trying to get it to work, I did get a dll error. Any ideas where to look in
that arena?

Thanks in advance
