Internet Explorer wont Start

I keep getting a error message when I try to start
Internet Explorer. I am using XP as an operating system.
I keep getting the message "Internet Explorer has
encountered a problem and needs to shut down" and then it
tries to send a report. I have checked my internet
connection and can run Netscape with no problems. I tried
to uninstall Internet Explorer but my computer would not
let me. I was then going to download IE again and
reinstall it. I also ran Norton Anti Virus and it came up
clean. If anyone can give me some ideas on how to get my
IE back up and running again I would be most grateful

I was having this problem yesterday and I fixed it by going into "start/control panel/internet options/advanced/" once there, uncheck enable third party browser extensions. I think it has something to do with spyware/adware. You can recheck this box once you get rid of the spyware/adware on your computer thats interfering with the browser,if that is the case. Let me know if this works.

I went to download.com and downloaded "Ad-aware" and "Spybot -Search & Destroy". They are in the "Internet" category under "Most Popular". I used Ad-aware first and it found around 500+ instances of adware/spyware on my computer. Then I used the Spybot -Search & Destroy and it found about 50 more. Computer seems a bit quicker now.
