I can’t get internet explorer to start by clicking on the link in the start
menu. The hourglass appears for a few seconds then disappears. The only way
it will open is by using other programmes, like the link to the worms website
in the game. If I go to the aol website to check my e-mails it stops
working. The same thing happens when I open msn messenger. This has only
been happening this last week.

Please help!

Ger,

please use http://winhlp.com/wxnet.htm to solve this problem.
Fill in the form.

I have just filled out the form but there are a few things Im not sure about.

Under the 'Other transport protocols' section, am I looking at the tick
boxes in properties, such as 'Client for microsoft networks'?

Also, how do I open a command line window?

Thanx

Ger,

no, that's not a transport protocol. The three most common
transport protocols are TCP/IP, which you want, and NWLink IPX
and NetBEUI, which you most likely don't want.
Also, how do I open a command line window?

Should be in Start menu, Accessories. You can also click on
Start, Run ..., then enter: cmd

If you get stuck, it may be a good idea to ask a friend, who is
conversant with these things, to help. Things may get a bit
tricky if you're new to this. The web page isn't written for
beginners and requires intermediate computer knowledge.
Unfortunately some of these things are too complex to describe
in a very simple way that can easily be understood without prior
knowledge.

But we can try. Please ask back if you get stuck.

My first guess, if Internet Explorer doesn't start, is some
spyware infection, possibly also Winsock corruption. But the web
page will also tell you that.
