Internet Explorer Virus

A virus has control of my Internet Explorer 6.0. I cannot
delete Internet Explorer - it just returns. I cannot
reinstall it - a message says a more current version is
present and installation is canceled. Use of Internet
Explorer takes me to an unwanted website. And there are IE
icons to unwanted websites on my desktop that can be
deleted only temporarily - the reappear each time I start
the computer. I can use Netscape, but I would rather use a
clean version of IE. Any ideas on how to solve this
problem? Thanks for your help.
