internet explorer v. 6 delays opening

When I try to open Internet explorer from the desktop the
computer acts like it wants to open but will take a good
30 to 60 seconds before the browser window appears. When
it does appear the browser often locks up and will not
respond. I upgraded to IE 6 , service pack 1 but did not
have any luck fixing the problem.

Try this: Tools > Internet Options > Advanced > Browsing
Uncheck the Enable 3rd party browser extensions

If this clears your problem then find out who the culprit is with this tool.
